Machining composites coupons

Example of applications: coupons machining for hydrogen

MACHINING OF COMPOSITE COUPONS FOR HYDROGEN TANKS

The machining of composite coupons for hydrogen tanks enables to perform mechanical and/or physico-chemical characterization testings. It can be used for prototyping, expertise or recurring sampling in manufacturing.

It allows to check the presence of material defect (for example: air bubble, lack of fibre and/or resin…) and to validate mechanical characteristics of  the tank cylinders.

We start by cutting out  cylinder sections (in washers) of the hydrogen tank. Then, we sample coupons in the longitudinal and radial direction, with or whitout thickness surfacing, in order to get flat coupons.

We have the possibility to stick resin beads in order to recover the curvature and performed testing with no need to impact the material.

Finally, we cut out the part containing the fitting (multi-materials) using water jet cutting. This one enables us  to check the correct assembly of the metallic fitting with the composite cylinder of the hydrogen tank.
